The City of Helsinki and Metropolitan Area Transport have appointed NRC Group Finland, a company wholly owned by NRC Group ASA ("NRC") and YIT Finland as construction parties for the West-Helsinki Light Rail project.
The West-Helsinki project is a part of Infrastructure programme Helsinki, which consists of three separate projects: the West-Helsinki Light Rail, the West Harbour Light Rail and the Viikki–Malmi Light Rail project. The entire programme is expected to be completed in 2033 and the total estimated cost of the Helsinki Programme (all parts and both alliances) is EUR 1000 million. NRC has a significant share of the total estimated cost, and the value will be specified at a later stage with regard to the two upcoming projects.
The total estimated cost of the West-Helsinki Light Rail project (all parts and both alliances) is approximately EUR 340 million, of which NRC’s share is approximately EUR 62 million.
“The second wave of light rail projects has started, and we have once again positioned us as a strong and leading alliance partner in the Finnish market. This project will play a key role in advancing sustainable urban infrastructure for the city of Helsinki. Excellent work by our Finnish team and the alliance partners”, says Anders Gustafsson, CEO of NRC Group ASA.
The West-Helsinki Light Rail project will commence in June 2026 and is scheduled to be completed in 2031.
